youth knows no pain Sit at a typewriter and bleed.
I was watching Predators, and Adrian Brody's character said something that fascinated me. I'm always fascinated by literature - beautiful words. So, he said this line, which was more like philosophy, and the girl asked him if he made it up himself, and he said no; Hemingway.
This is the second time I've heard that name in media, the first was in Katy Perry's song "Ur So Gay". Katy Perry's Scorpio, so.. I guessed if she mentioned Hemingway it would be a good, deep and meaningful read. I know, shame on me for not knowing who Ernest Hemingway was, for not reading any of his literature. Me! A lover of speech and comprehension. Anyways, I've been reading up so quotes and filling up my mind with quality substance, that it made me realize how so many things nowadays dumb me down... dumb as down! And I never really notice it. I think everyone should read the classics, not just the gossipy, racy books out now a days that are solely written to excite sexually frustrated teens. Hemingway's words are so fulfilling, it makes me wish that even my words could one day become as fulfilling as his, as good, and as mind-bending. Hey, like I always say, keep working to get there cuz I got my whole life to do it! I want people to quote me, and really take what I say, and have it ingrained in their subconscious. Hemingway! You are my idol! Next to Christina Aguilera, Gordon Ramsay and Pauline Mata. Oh crap I just read he commited suicide... that's not good... Nonetheless, Hemingway you are a hero in literature. "Once in camp I put a log on a fire and it was full of ants. As it commenced to burn, the ants swarmed out and went first toward the center where the fire was; then turned back and ran toward the end. When there were enough on the end they fell off into the fire. Some got out, their bodies burnt and flattened, and went off not knowing where they were going. But most of them went toward the fire and then back toward the end and swarmed on the cool end and finally fell off into the fire. I remember thinking at the time that it was the end of the world and a splendid chance to be a messiah and lift the log off the fire and throw it out where the ants could get off onto the ground. But I did not do anything but throw a tin cup of water on the log, so that I would have the cup empty to put whiskey in before I added water to it. I think the cup of water on the burning log only steamed the ants." "Often a man wishes to be alone and a girl wishes to be alone too and if they love each other they are jealous of that in each other, but I can truly say we never felt that. We could feel alone when we were together, alone against the others. But we were never lonely and never afraid when we were together." |
